Find, organize, and select devices

Locate a device, narrow a fleet by its properties, assign users and tags, and carry the exact selection into a task.

Access All console roles can inspect inventory. Operators can change ordinary tags and run tasks; administrators can assign users and change policy-targeted tags.Console path /endpoints

Before you start

  • Select the organization containing the devices.
  • At least one agent must have enrolled and reported inventory. Use Add agent if this is your first device.

Screenshots show the Rapport interface with example data. Use your organization’s devices and values. Select an image to view it at full size.

Open Endpoints and find the machine

Choose Endpoints in the sidebar and type a device display name or hostname in Search name or hostname. Check the returned hostname, operating system, assigned user, and last-seen information before opening a row. A friendly display name can differ from the hostname reported by the agent.

Start with Search name or hostname. The filters above the table narrow the inventory; row checkboxes select the devices for an action.

What you should see: The table contains devices matching the active filters. Opening a device takes you to its Agent workspace.

Combine filters to answer a specific fleet question

Use the controls together. For example, select Windows, turn on Has alerts, and reduce DEX score to focus on affected Windows devices. Use Clear filters to return to the full inventory.

Fields and controls for Combine filters to answer a specific fleet question
Field or controlWhat to do
Asset type / Operating systemChoose a device class and OS. Unknown means the inventory has not supplied a recognized value.
Status / Assigned user / TagsStatus and Tags support multiple checked values; the assigned-user picker includes a search box.
Has alertsRestricts the device list to devices with alerts.
DEX score / Patch compliance %Drag the range handles to keep only values in the displayed interval.

Select the intended scope

Check individual device rows, or use the header checkbox to Select page. If a selection banner offers to select every matching device, read its count before choosing it. Paging through the table and selecting all matching records are different actions. Use Clear selection or Clear when starting a new operation.

What you should see: The selection count in the bulk-action bar is the scope for tag edits, user assignment, or Run a task.

Add or remove a tag

With devices selected, click Add tag, enter one Tag such as engineering, and confirm Add tag. To remove an existing tag, choose Remove tag, select the tag from those carried by the selected devices, and confirm. Read the completion message: a request can report that only part of the selection changed.

Assign an owner or launch work on the selection

An administrator can choose Assign user to update the selected devices’ assigned user. To perform an operation, click Run a task…; the selected device IDs are passed to the task page. Recheck its Where step, because the selected task can exclude incompatible platforms.

Export the filtered inventory or open one device

Click Export CSV in the page header when you need a CSV of the matching inventory. Wait for its export progress to finish. For a single-device investigation, open its name and use Overview, Telemetry, DEX, Software, or Patches to inspect the relevant evidence.

What you should see: You have either a filtered inventory export, an intentionally scoped task, or the detail page for the correct device.

If something doesn’t work

A device is missing.

Clear filters, confirm the selected organization, and search the hostname instead of a display name. If it never enrolled, use Add agent and check enrollment and the first heartbeat.

Assign user or a tag change is unavailable.

Assignment requires an administrator. Tags referenced by policies are also administrator-controlled; ordinary tag changes require an operator.

The list says inventory is unavailable.

Use Retry endpoint inventory. A failed read is not evidence that the organization has no devices.
