Run a script, command, or agent update
Complete What, Where, and Review & run to dispatch a deliberate operation to one device or a batch of up to 200.
Before you start
- Enroll the target devices and confirm their operating systems.
- For a Library script task, create and enable the script first.
Screenshots show the Rapport interface with example data. Use your organization’s devices and values. Select an image to view it at full size.
Choose what to run
Choose RMM → Run in the sidebar to open Run a task, use a device’s Run a task action, or start from selected Endpoints rows. In What, select Library script, Command, or Agent update. An incoming device or script selection is a starting point; review it before dispatch.
| Field or control | What to do |
|---|---|
| Library script | Choose an enabled script, supply its required Parameters, and review Timeout (seconds), between 5 and 3,600. |
| Command | Choose Pull inventory, Run patch scan, Restart service, Stop service, Reboot, Install software, or Uninstall software. |
| Agent update | Installs the signed update for each device’s release channel and restarts its agent service. |
Fill the fields for the selected command
For a command task, use the field shown for that command. Pull inventory and Run patch scan require no additional payload fields. Review the command’s help text before continuing.
| Field or control | What to do |
|---|---|
| Service name | For Restart service or Stop service, enter the actual system service name, such as Spooler on an appropriate Windows device. |
| Package name / Package manager | For install or uninstall, enter the package identifier and select the package manager supported by the target OS. |
| Delay before reboot (seconds) | Choose the delay before the reboot; users need time to save work. |
| Script Parameters | Supply required values according to the saved schema. Review the script using View in library when necessary. |
Pick devices or use a reusable filter
In Where, choose Pick devices and search by hostname or agent ID, or select By filter to target by status, OS, tag, or OU. A saved smart group loads its filters. You can save the current filter set as a smart group for later reuse.
Review the exact scope and approval requirement
In Review & run, check the operation, final device count, and offline count. Give a script or command batch a useful Batch name. Read the approval explanation. For eligible commands, Require approval anyway adds a review even when the policy does not otherwise require one.
| Field or control | What to do |
|---|---|
| Offline devices | Their jobs wait for the agent to reconnect; selecting them does not make them online. |
| Confirm the rollout size | For more than 25 targets, type the exact displayed count to enable dispatch. |
| Destructive-operation acknowledgement | When shown, check the statement acknowledging the irreversible command on the selected devices. |
Dispatch once and complete any second-factor check
Click Run on … devices, complete the MFA prompt when required, and wait for the dispatch result. Script and command work opens the new batch detail. Agent updates can create per-platform batches and take you to Activity.
What you should see: The request is recorded as a batch or batches, with one job per target. Work requiring approval waits for an eligible decision.
Follow each device to a result
In the batch page, review Per-endpoint status, approval state, output, and exit code. Open Approvals when the batch is waiting. A queued or approved job has not yet proved execution; after completion, check the relevant device inventory or measurement for the intended change.
What you should see: You can account for succeeded, failed, cancelled, waiting, and still-running devices separately.
If something doesn’t work
Run remains disabled.
Choose a script or valid command, fix required parameter or timeout errors, select 1–200 compatible devices, acknowledge any destructive action, and type the exact count when there are more than 25 targets.
A selected script is unavailable.
It may be disabled or deleted. Open the library to enable it or select another enabled script.
Some devices disappear after choosing a task.
The task restricts eligible platforms. Check the script language/platform or the command’s selected package manager, then review the exclusions.
The dispatch outcome is unclear.
Check Activity and the device Commands tab before resubmitting, so a response problem does not cause duplicate work.
